21 April 2018

Living History Day at the Thompson-Brown House in Maryville, TN.  We have traditionally participated in this event with a table and volunteers, some in uniform.

28 April 2018, 10:00 a.m.

Headstone Dedication for Union Navy Veteran

A native of Siena,  Italy, Celso Pierucci made a number of contributions to the Union Army as Assistant Surgeon and Surgeon that led him around the coast to Louisiana and eventually Texas.  After a number of adventures that even included a hurricane and a trip back to Italy for family business, Pierucci eventually found his way back to a Union hospital in Kentucky where he found his wife.  He died in Knoxville, TN and was buried in an unmarked grave at Old Grey Cemetery.  The family recently found the grave and that of his wife, received VA markers and have asked us to provide a “big, booming” ceremony in honor of his ancestor.  I think we can prod his direct male descendant into SUVCW membership.  We have commitments for support from the William Blount High School Junior ROTC, the Boy Scouts and some East Tennessee Re-enactors.

28 May 2018 Memorial Day Holiday

Celebrate the Memorial Day holiday at Knoxville National Cemetery in Knoxville, TN.  It is the 150th anniversary of General Logan’s order establishing Memorial Day.  We need to make our event very special.  Planning an event very similar to last year with the DUVCW and the 79th Highlanders.  Will need volunteers to participate.

30 May 2018 Memorial Day

Celebrate Memorial Day on the day set aside by General Logan in his order.  Traditionally we have done a headstone re-dedication service at the grave site of our camp namesake, Major Will McTeer.

9-12 August 2018

137th Annual National Encampment of the Allied Orders of the Grand Army of the Republic

Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center, 1657 Worcester Road, Framingham, MA., 1-800-325-3535.  Great opportunity to attend as a delegate of the Tennessee Department and learn more about how our Order works.  Also a tour and entertainment at the Campfire on Friday night.

18 August 2018

East Tennessee History Fair at Krutch Park in downtown Knoxville, TN.
